The most beautiful "centro historico" I have seen so far on this trip. I really recommend everyone who are in Colombia travel to this city.
In 1984, Cartagena's colonial walled city and fortress were designated in UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The phrase "blood, toil, tears and sweat" was first uttered on 2. July 1849 by Giuseppe Garibaldi when rallying his revolutionary forces in Rome. However, the phrase became well known after a speech given by Winston Churchill to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the UK on 13. May 1940. "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat". From Sep 2010 to Apr/May 2011 I will try to bike from San Francisco to Santiago. I know this bicycle journey will offer me toil, sweat and joy.
Hello Kim
SvarSlettHope you doing well. We heard in the news that in Colombia are heavy rainfalls with hundreds of people who lost their homes. Also, the panama Channel was entirely closed (the first time since opening) because of the extremely rainfalls. We took the bus (we’re really Sissyboys!) from Belize to Managua to pass Honduras. Now we are in Costa Rica since 6 days. We had only 1 day with rain. Did you took the main road over the cierro del muerto (which is very high aprox. 3100 over sea level) to panama or did you biked along the coast?
As you maybe already read in our blog, I will quit the trip in Cartagena. Jurre is not sure what to do, but I think he will return to Switzerland too. Maybe I take some Spanish lessons in Cartagena to improve my Spanish.
Again, hope you doing well and take care of you. All the best,
Stefan y Jurre
